Good evening. I had three Dark Brahma chickens. Two hens and a rooster. Last weekend they started with sneezing and runny eyes. I lost one of the hens on Sunday. I started Albon in their water everyday, and gave them three days worth of Tylan injections. They were better and the remaining hen started laying eggs again on wednesday, and is still laying, but the rooster is starting to make sounds when he breaths again and I heard him sneeze again. I am still giving them the Albon, but should I give them more Tylan or try something else? Any help would be great!!!

I am not familiar with the Albon. Can you describe the symptoms he is showing?

Bubbles or very watery eye, mostly just one eye, clear discharge and wheezing is often MG, often needing stronger meds, but could be other respiratory infections.. but be cautious and handle sick birds last as these illness can cross contaminate fast and some do not go away even after the bird recovers, it lies dormant.

Trouble breathing and swollen, closed or mucusy eye, or yellow/white puss in eye, swollen or closed nares are often signs of Coryza. Have vaccines for this. Tylan 50 normally helps.

How much are you giving and how many times ?

The one chicken that had the bad eyes is the one that died. There was kind of a white foamy stuff in the eyes. The other 2 do not look sick but the rooster makes a crackling noise when it breaths. The hen seems fine but they are together so if one is still sick then I am sure the other is probably still sick to.
I am giving them 1cc of the Tylan 50. Albon is an antibiotic. I am not sure what the active drug is. It was a suggestion from my Vet. But he does not know alot about chickens so we are kinda guessing here. I got the Tylan from other posts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What is MG & Coryza? How do they get it? Will it go away?

I am not one of the experts. I too have been injecting with Tylan 50. For the respiratory problems. They seem to go away and return. I have first used a Tetracycline drug (duramycin and teramycin), for several weeks, then Sulmet (sulfa drug) then the injectable.

If they are not responding then I would try Sulmet. On the bottle it says good for Coryza and other problems. So if one thing doesn't work, we must move on to another.

I am out of tricks in my bag. Hope yours get better with the Sulmet!

LA 200 is another good one or Gallimycian injectable. Was there any smell to the one that died, Coryza often has a smell. Baytril is the best for respiratory infections but mostly you have to get it from a vet unless you find it in liquid form for parrots.

They chicken did not have a smell that I noticed. Our vet does have Baytril injectable. I may try that next. Thanks for all your help!!!!!

tylan worked fantastically for me. did it for 5 days to be sure, kept them warm and quarantined. Are you planning to inject in the breast, that from what I've read is the best, (in my opinion)

I tried the breast but just could not get a good feel for it so I have been doing under the skin where the wing connects to the body. Is that not a good idea?
