treating leg mites in volume update..problem toe

Oh I am so glad to hear from someone else with experience with extreme mite infestation. I am going to get back out there this week to do the ivomec. Thanks for the dosage. On some of them the crusty stuff is as hard as a rock and impermeable to the oil. I have to nip it with wire cutters to get the oil to soak in. Are you saying you only had to use the vicks once? and the stuff fell off? I am going to get some styptic powder? and really cut those nails back also.

Uploading now be just a bit. What i did was got me a visene bottle pulled the top off and filled that with ivomec. then placed 4 drops to each standard sized bird and 3 drops to each bantam breed. Put the vicks vapor rub on nice and thick and let them be. this is the end result and finally there legs are healing up nicely and getting color back notice there feet are actually yellow and green again not grey. We treated 300+ birds in just under 2 hours this way.
Also I suggest spraying the walls and corners of the coopswith Tempo SC it leaves a 30 day powder residue that will continue to kill any stragglers who attempt to rehome themselves. and I used sevin dust 5% and DE in the coops and nest boxes removed old bedding and burned it and replaced new over the De and sevin. But remember Mites wont walk across any white substance so it is important to dust this lightly I use it in a sock. and barely jingle the sock so that it doesnt cause alot of dust clouds aprox 3 inchs away from where i am dusting.

Hope this helps you on your adventure. Good luck and thank you for carring for these precious animals.

Ah yes...the majority of them look like those. Others are worse. I like the idea of the visine bottle...much simplier than a syringe. Thanks! I will get the vicks and re-attack them. I have seven dust and DE but what is tempo sc? THis gives me hope. I was so down when I got back tonight.

Tempo SC Ultra effectively controls over 100 different types of indoor, outdoor, turf and ornamental insect pests. Tempo SC Ultra is a suspension concentrate that delivers the power of a powder formulation in a liquid. It's easy to use too-less messy to handle, needs less agitation and is more evenly dispersed during application than other products. Tempo SC Ultra has no odor, is non-staining, and has a long lasting residual of up to 3 months. Some microencapsulated formulas may seem less expensive than Tempo SC Ultra- until you actually use them. But Tempo SC Ultra has a higher insect mortality rate, so you don't waste time and money on retreating areas.

Do the in between the shoulder thing and then vicks their feet. MAN I could NOT believe those pictures. OMG> So sorry. I'm surprised they can walk really. You are getting some serious feathers in your angel wings!

Good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to get pics of some of the others but not sure I should bust up in there with the camera. These are the ones losing their toes but some of the others have huge swollen toes and feet. They look like they are dinosaur skin encrusted. They aren't walking very well and don't want to move much which I think must be contributing to the long nails and imobility too. I am going to try to get out there before the end of the week.

I might be wrong but I think the vapo-rub is mainly petroleum jelly and eucalyptus oil. That shouldn't be harmful to them. I know there are other animal medications that are made from petroleum jelly and is meant for those animals to ingest it. One that comes to mind is hairball remedy for cats. It's petroleum jelly and molasses.
