treatment for cocci? Dying chicks please help

UGH! Is it possible for one chick that may have died of cocci to pass it on to the others in the brooder box and not show symptoms or die for another 5 weeks???? All the chicks I had in the brooder box were moved to the big coop about 2 weeks ago...and so far I have lost 6 out of 8 and so I isolated the other 2 left. They are ruffled up but none of them have had bloody poop. Could it still be cocci?? I dont have any anti-bs, so I have been dosing them with the electrolyte water and some plain yogurt. What else can I do?

Well I forced her to drink 15-30 ml a day for 2 days. it's not much but by the second day she was strong enough that I could not force her anymore. I sent her back in with the flock. she is looking better. her tail is back up and she is scratching around. she still needs improvement on her posture but it looks good

they will keep dying until you treat them. it's contagious before they show symptoms so isolating them is useless. if one has it they all do

Thats too bad. I cant get to the feed store untill friday

Hopefully they will hang in there that long!

How old are they?

Don't want to confuse you with medicines . I raise pigeons and chickens . Sulmet is for salmonella , which can cause scours. I use randidazole for canker . Parastop for cocci . Siegals Pigeon supplies in Louisiana sells these . Look them up online . The best online selection of medicines is online with New England Pigeon and they are sell medicines for most all birds . Always isolate a sick bird . I use pills for isolated birds but that is another matter . The ones listed you can get in liquid and powder form and do a flock treatment . Cocci-gel is excellent also . Global Pigeon supplies has that also . Mix it in water too . Cocci and Salmonella are two totally different things to treat for . Don't be fooled in a one for all treatment . Doesn't work that way . Hope I haven't confused you .

Enrofloxen (generic baytril) good anti-biotic , but after you you these , you must re-establish the good bacteria in their gut , because you just wiped everything out . Pro-biotics will restore good bacteria . Got to run pm if I can help !!!

The medication most easily availble for cocci is either Sulmet or Corid from the farm store. Sulmet is generally harder on the birds. If you wait until Friday to get them medicated you will probably have more die. Once they have symtoms they are very sick. Have you been feeding medicated chick food? You really should be to prevent this issue. It won't help the problem once they are sick though. Corid liquid 9.6% solution put 9.5 cc in per gallon of water. Change it out every day. No other water source. Keep the brooder as clean and dry as possible. Did you treat your chicks after the first episode? I treat the whole group for it even if you only have one get sick. You can assume they all have a heavy cocci load. Good luck (get the sulmet if you can't get the Corid)

Am I the only one who has Corid in the powder formula??? Everyone keeps talking about doses and syringes but mine came in a little bag. Has anyone ever used this kind before?
