I was feeding a baby starling i rescued from My Evil Cats on top of the 60 gal Rubbermaid tub my pullets are in and the chicks were very interested in that canned cat food(Trader Joes). I let them try it and they went apesh...bonkers. Is catfood a accepted treat for chickens? I'm afraid it was chicken, turkey, and rice flavor. My little cannibals! Seriously, is it ok healthwise? I watched them run around chasing each other with their first worms yesterday and i figure its all protein. Is it too much protein though? They were real serious about that meat, like little velociraptors! Qweep-qweep-qweep!!! Quetsweyo, Master of Puppies.

It's ok for an occasional treat but there is something about cat food that makes it not really good for chickens. I can't remember what it is though unless it's just too much protein or the fact that cats need a high fat content in their food.
