Tree beard happens to be the name of a Large white roo that was given to me over a year ago....
here he is with one of his Nn girlfriends fall of 17. We did a rough weight on him and at 14 pounds he weighs more than some of my turkeys!
We hatched out a batch from him and his Nn girlfriends,
ened up with these 2 boys, the one in the front is still looking for a name, the back one goes by bluefoot
ah here is a better pic of bluefoot! His feet are more blue in person..... I have speculated that he gets his blue feet from some ee on his mother's side.... may be that's true. The lady that gave me tree beard told me he was a leghorn..... I am very sure that is not right, so his breed is a mystery. Right now we have eggs in lockdown from the Nn boys and their harem witch includes black australorp, buff orpington, and a few sexlinks. We are hopefull for more Nn babies, especially if they continue to get the larger size.
Treebeard's other babies that I am starting to be excited about are from Delaware hens. We hatched a few from this pairing and one in particular looks good
that's big boy there in front.... at 12 weeks he had hit 5 pounds! That was last week we did not weigh him this week, but he is about the same weight as one of the Nn boys that is almost a month older. Oh the roo behind him is a German bielfelder that is 6 months old.
here we have the batch that big boy was raised with..... I believe the black boys are from treebeard and a cuckoo marans mix girl.
Some of the weights at 8 weeks
Big boy 2.7 pounds
Black cockrels averaged 2.2 pounds
At 12 weeks
Big boy 5.1 pounds
Black cockrels averaged 3.2 pounds
This is the first time I have weighted my birds so I do not have any previous data to compare to, however I will try to do weights going forward at 8 and 12 weeks if nothing else..... I do have weights on some la bresse that just hit 8 weeks yesterday and the biggest one is only 1.5 pounds.
