Trees---American Filbert--?

I have been looking for someone that has or would like to tell me how to start an American Filbert tree. I have had several in the past but I cant get it to grow for anything. I would like to find out WHAT I am doing wrong!

Arbor Day Foundation has them 50 for $60 -actually the one they are selling in bulk is a cross between European, American, and Beaked. They also sell the American.

Are you starting from seed? Or seedlings?

for some reason I cant get them to start from seed, however I thought I was doing ok with a seedling, untill it was no more., none of these are boughten from a dealer, I have a friend that has a tree in his yard and I h ave been tring for 3 years to get one started here. I might just break down and spend a little to get this going, thanks for the links
