Tremetodes Yup The great wormer debate

Where can you get Safeguard or Panacure? Is it something you can get over the counter? Should you eat the eggs while treating? Thanks for any info.
Well, you can get safeguard at TSC. No one can truly answer about eating the eggs because the medicine is approved for goats not chickens. Answers are purely speculation on how long to wait & even if you should really use the medicine at all on your chickens. They only make one wormer specifically for chickens & its wazine. But wazine only kills roundworms. It says on the wazine label do not use this medicine to treat chickens that produce eggs for human consumption.

Valbazen is the best wormer on the market. It kills all known worms that chickens can get including flukes.
I'm not doubting you . I'm just not sure about trematodes. If I had a common worm I'd worm them yesterday but this type of worm I'm not to sure of & from 4 days & a bunch of phone calls sounds like no one really knows. I'm very concerned but don't know what to do. Its easy for someone to adminster a wormer to a chicken but after reading about all the uncertainity's I'm again leary. I've not ever read on BYC about anyone having Trematodes & I've read a lot of info here.

Albendazole (valbazen) will get them. There was another BYC member that had them in his chickens last year and used valbazen...it took care of them. Good luck.

I was looking into using this product but I have 50 chickens & they all look the same. How in the world am I gonna give it to them. I wouldn't know which one I gave it to . I can see myself now wonder if I did that one or what about that one. Wow, it would take forever to do one at a time & then you have to do it again. This stuff is great for people that have 5 chickens but 50.
Its hard to believe what I've gone through just to try & figure out what to do for my chickens. Seems ridiculous that an avian vet couldn't tell me what to do.

I have over 300....plus all my other fowl. you can mix it in their drinking water. You do it for a few days to make sure everyone gets enough. I have done it by mouth also...but much easier in water.. Lol
I know your getting sick of me. I'm not a big fan of giving any medicine to my chickens. The problem really is I don't use chemicals on my farm I'm not certified organic but don't use chemicals. I sell veggies, honey, quail eggs etc. Giving chemicals will cause a problem they poop the chemicals it winds up in my gardens etc. Maybe, now yall will see my problem. But from hearing from yall that the eggs I sell might have worms in them I'm very paranoid.
Plus, sure I don't want my flock to get sick & possibly die.
So, how do you mixs this stuff in their water & for how long. Do you have to reapply the medicine. Throw away the eggs for how long. Why in the world don't they make something for chickens that says on the bottle how it works & how to adminster the product instead I have to ask on the internet about all this. Seems crazy to me. Its not crazy its utterly ridicuolous. I mean come on chickens have been around before man kind & the world doesn't have a certified product for worming chickens.

I'm not trying to force you into something you don't want to do. Just trying to answer your questions with what I do know.... I understand your fears and the complicated situation you are in. I would try to find more information.....if its possible.... Before doing anything.
Most meds for chickens are limited because the money making market for it is geared towards large commercial farms that normally are "all in..all out".. As once the chickens are either done laying or done growing they go to processing then start all over. Many don't live long enough to experience what our free range flocks do... They are mostly kept in cages or in special buildings that prevent insects and such....Also for a long time there was no money in it to fund research for back yard flocks. Most meds we have to use are geared towards other animals. We have to use our and our vets best guess on withdrawal time etc since the withdrawal posted on the label is for larger animals. And we have to go off of other people who use the eggs after such and such time for years aren't dropping dead all over the US... :p.

I know you are trying to help me & its totally my decision on what really needs to be done in my unique situation here at 7L. Guess, thats why I named this thread the way I did. My mind is racing on what I should. Now, everytime I go to my coops I'm constantly worried about my birds. I have quite a few quail that I raise here as well. Most of my quail live in large flight pens on the ground. I doubt they have trematodes because they don't range. I guess my chickens got trematodes from dragon flies don't really know that for sure seems kinda strange but guess you never know. Most people that raise chickens in my neck of the woods never worm there birds ever.
