I see quail eggs on restaurant menus. So I guess food is the main reason to raise them. Or the cute factor! They really are darling. Feedman, you need to raise a lapper hen. She can keep you warm while hunting and maybe even call in some wild turkeys! Yet another use for a lapper! (R2elk, I know its illegal...kidding...maybe.) But really, whats the difference between using a turkey call & having a conversation with your emotional aid turkey hen in your blind. And what would the game warden say when you hand him her aid registration papers?

And Stephcraig I'm originally from St. Louis and have a historic house in Ste. Genevieve. I show dogs and am over at Grey Summit a lot. Now here is the wacky forecast for us....Saturday's high will be 71, then it drops over 40 degrees and our high Sunday will be 30. AND one of these days Feedman will breed me the Narri of my dreams!

I'm still interested in the Buttercups. I think they are such neat birds!

My SS, Gregory Peck, was a sweetie too. Only issue I had with him is that he would sprawl out in a nest box at night & poop in it. He didn't do it all the time. But i sure hated cleaning up after him!

As sweet as my chickens are, my turkeys beat them hands down! I was looking at Aurora's mottled pics again. Thankfully I have limitations or I could get out of control quickly. Hoping to add a third hen this spring. Ralph, I still think you should send me Snitch.

I really need to decide if I want to try a tom. I hear such varying stories. I almost want to stick with just the hens. Its rather zen around here with just the girls. And I love their eggs!

Oh geez! Mine can't help but fiddle with anything new to them. And yes they will check my pockets. And they are constantly on my heels. Just hanging around. I usually sit in my chair before bedtime & hand out a few treats. That's the only time they get treats. Funny enough, Annie will go stand by that chair & trill at me. She's figured it out.
