Well...I'm sitting on the bank of the mighty Mississippi in Ste. Genevieve right now. The one benefit of having a house in a town on the National Register is the Corp. Of Engineers really monitors this levy. We had a scare this winter. But the new levy held like a champ. Have you finished your renovation after the fire? This house was built in 1820....I'm in renovation hell.

You know Ralph...Daisy had such a good time at the birthday party she probably would love a road trip. Honestly they are so laid back...hmm

I'll get some pics of my old house. Love the old girl. Love working on her. She's log & timber frame. She's 3 hours from Memphis & 45 minutes from my sister in St. Louis. Close enough but far enough...if ya know eat I mean! She was used by the Union army as an "aid station" during the Civil War. The first time I saw her was about 15 years ago. I slammed the brakes on the van & just sat there staring at her. Had a visceral reaction to the house for some reason. Heard she was going on the market 4 years ago. Literally walked up & wrote the guy a check that day. I love this place. I'm figuring I would slowly renovate while working then retire here. Closer to the family. Renovating went quicker and smoother than expected. Spending most of my time developing gardens. Just loving it.

Silver Auburn sound pretty....maybe Porter has a pic.

So I'm not growing veggies. Would need to be here full time for that. I'm focusing on trees right now. Also love natives. Getting some of them in too. In Memphis I have total shade. No option for veggies. Obviously I don't let my chickens in my gardens this time of year. But my turkey hens do help me! They don't damage anything. Just inspect my tools. They follow all around the house. The only thing I've found that they will nibble is my spiderwort. It gets so tall I don't mind them trimming it. Love having them hanging out.

Feedman...what caused the decline in Turkey population? Hunting, loss of habitat? Just curious. With the delicate nature of poults it amazes me any of them reach maturity.

I'm still in Ste. Genevieve. Huge clump of rain heading my way. You may be catching some of this. Hope you don't have to move birds! Trying to figure out when to make a run for Memphis. Hoping to find a break in storms.

Glad your giving Ethel something to hatch. Would hate for all her hard work come to naught. She sounds a lot like Daisy... I think it's a trust thing.

As far as Ethel Jr.....sounds to me like she doesn't wanna! Can you let her out for awhile? Let just her out & sit there with her with some treats. A bonding opportunity. ;)

So where has Holm been? Any Coffee updates? Did her hen hatch poults??
