A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Yesterday, I finally started planting garden. Ethel Jr and the other hen helped me....

They were sampling the cauliflower and broccoli as soon as I got the in the ground. I had to yell at them several times to leave it alone. They finally left.

I forget every spring at planting time how much they love a garden. They seem to think it is their own personal salad bar.

What is it about turkeys and onions? They seem to love pulling them out of the ground but don't appear to eat any of them. Its like they just want to make sure the onions don't grow.

Hey! Long time to turkey talk! I still haven't found Griffin a hen, but found some sweetgrass, royal palm, and silver auburn chicks nearby that I'm hoping to get so he can have some hens next spring. Any body here got silver auburn? I haven't seen one, but their breeder says they're pretty:lau

I haven't seen him on in awhile. But member: swamperkk used to have some silver auburn.

Silver Auburn sound pretty....maybe Porter has a pic.

So I'm not growing veggies. Would need to be here full time for that. I'm focusing on trees right now. Also love natives. Getting some of them in too. In Memphis I have total shade. No option for veggies. Obviously I don't let my chickens in my gardens this time of year. But my turkey hens do help me! They don't damage anything. Just inspect my tools. They follow all around the house. The only thing I've found that they will nibble is my spiderwort. It gets so tall I don't mind them trimming it. Love having them hanging out.

You know Ralph...Daisy had such a good time at the birthday party she probably would love a road trip. Honestly they are so laid back...hmm

I'll get some pics of my old house. Love the old girl. Love working on her. She's log & timber frame. She's 3 hours from Memphis & 45 minutes from my sister in St. Louis. Close enough but far enough...if ya know eat I mean! She was used by the Union army as an "aid station" during the Civil War. The first time I saw her was about 15 years ago. I slammed the brakes on the van & just sat there staring at her. Had a viseral reaction to the house for some reason. Heard she was going on the market 4 years ago. Literally walked up & wrote the guy a check that day. I love this place. I'm figuring I would slowly renovate while working then retire here. Closer to the family. Renovating went quicker and smoother than expected. Spending most of my time developing gardens. Just loving it.

Sounds like an amazing house and wonderful story. We just have a double wide on 1.3 acres but we absolutely love it here. We came from a tiny house with a 9 x 22 dirt patch for a yard in the middle of the city to this with nothing but state game lands behind us, farms around us, only a couple neighbors on one side and nothing but hunting cabins on the other. It's a simple paradise :)

Aurora: sounds like an awesome place.

Memphis: your retirement house in Mo. Sounds awesome as well. Especially since it gave you a reaction.

My little slice of earth is 30 acres.

17 acres crop ground. 13 acres of overgrown pasture and timber.

I tore the house down that was there.

My plans are eventually to put a small cabin on it just as my getaway retreat.

Got home have 3 new babies in the hatcher. 2 more palms and a palm narri cross.

2 of my broodys that hatched have started laying again today.

Tomorrow is work on chicken, turkey, and dog pens. Pick up rest of my fencing in the morning.

Hope all have a good and safe Memorial Day.

Very busy here Memorial Day in my home town McVeytown you would be lucky to find a parking spot but luckily my uncle lives in town McVeytown and he saves his drive way and yard for family only.
