Trooper, the single hatchling

Oh gosh, I've been skipping posts again sorry! Turns out I'm really bad at this regular updating thing... Anyways, here is Mr. Trooper, who will be 7 weeks old tomorrow...

By the lighter feathering and eye color, I now suspect that the egg he came out of was not from my heritage Rhode Island Red hen, but from one of the production Red hens I have... Because my Heritage Red Hen and Rooster have dark brown feathers and red eyes, and the production Reds have this light brown feather color... I was really hoping he was from the Heritage Reds, but I will put Molly (Heritage Red Hen) with Steve (Heritage Red Roo) again to try and hatch a second batch of only their eggs... Molly just started laying again after being broody....

Sorry I've been quiet... My blackberry was broken and I had to make do with a phone without a camera from the stone age... Here is some pics of Trooper at 9 and a half weeks from today...

"Chillin with my peeps" That chick with the wing spread out is Nunki, and the others are Silkie babies from the broody pen

A close-up of handsome Trooper (Definitely out of an egg from some of the production Reds I had)

Going to be a big boy soon...

ADORABLE! I'm on day 3 with my little guy I hope my turns out like yours. Such a cute Trooper. Cute name too.

He's so tame too! I can pick him up and pet him, and he loves being stroked from his head down his neck - he closes his eyes and nods off

I am so sad right now. Trooper was out free-ranging and he's missing now. I heard a panic from all the chickens, then a loud chick-scream and ran out. All the chickens are there except for Trooper, suspecting a hawk picked him up but maybe he's just hiding. I just spent an hour looking for him though

I'm hoping that he's hiding and will come out later, will post an update later on. Please send some prayers this way that he is safe and hiding somewhere

Trooper must have been taken by a predator. It is almost 9p.m here and all the chickens are roosting in their coops. Trooper never showed up. I'm so sad, he was such a beautiful cockerel.
