S-10s are the best you can get for a compact 4x4 truck rangers are ok but known to fall apart my friend has one (which he may beat a bit

Thats just your opinion with no facts to back up your statements. Fact, Toyota has recalled more trucks in the last 10 years than they have built. Only difference is they dont call it a recall, they call it an upgrade. The Jap jobs will hold together, as long as the rust termites keep holding hands. I like Chocolate and you like Vanilla, since you put your opinion out there, I figured I'd put mine.

back to the subject at hand,
Their are plenty of decent used full size trucks for sale in your price range. It seems to me, you are not looking for a daily driver, just something to hual a few things every now and then. If that is the case, take a mechanic with you and check out some of the rust buckets in the trader mag's. Some of these trucks might look like crap, but are perfectly able to still do the work you are looking for.

My entire life I have been a fan of Toyota's. Then my 10 year old corolla with 149,000 miles on it blew a rod. The love fest is over andmy truck has a bow tie on the front.

F O R D Fix or repair daily, found on road dead.

I like the older Tacomas. My grandpa's is great, it's small and good on gas. I can't stand Ford trucks, well Ford anything for that matter. A lot of people have had transmission problems with them. I would get a Tacoma or a Chevy S-10. At one point Toyota was more made in America than Ford. Don't know if it still is, but they're good trucks. Dodge is good if you get a big one. We have one and it gets about 13mpg after we put a new intake on it.
