There appears to be quite the controversy over what constitutes a real Ameraucana, vs. a mixed breed "Easter Egger" - from what I've read.. tufted beard and ears, etc, I was thinking my two Ameraucanas were indeed true, as they were sold to me that way, but I could just by naive...

Can anyone tell me what this little gal is?

I am new to chickens too but i have 3 that look just like yours. The ppl on BYC told me its an EE not an Americauna.I thought mine were too.

Apologies to the admins if this was in the wrong section.. I just realized there was a whole different area for breed and sexing questions :)

i believe it's an EE. Ameraucana's have colored legs from what I've read. Cutie pie! I have 2 EEs.

Cheeky - Thanks! I though she was a handsome devil.. kind of hawkish looking!

My wife calls her "the scottish one" because her "beard" reminds her of an old scottish man hah.

I mixed mine with a polish & now I have the prettiest EE ever with a top hat. I have a pair. I call them pollocks. Hope that doesn't offend anyone. She is that color & has green legs

You have an Easter Egger. To make it simple Ameraucanas have a standard (list of rules they must follow) and come in eight recognized color varieties. Your pullet is not one of the Ameraucana color varieties, so it is an Easter Egger.

I wish hatcheries wold stop selling EE as Ameraucana's. I think it is deceiving to people. They think they have a bredd that they don't. Meyer sells them as they should be. EE. I have 4 and they are so cute with their beards!
