true bantam breeds

Not to get into the middle of a verbal discussion, it does seem that OEG are small versions of games. Whether that is the intention or not, we'd have to ask the first to breed them and I'm fairly certain, he isn't talking.

Just like saying Wyandotte bantams aren't miniture versions of standards, is about as silly as saying cochin bantams aren't miniture versions of standards.....I think that's why we use the same name.

To each his own, if it makes your day saying it's not a miniture version of standard, GO FOR IT.

As far as silkies, there is no standard because they are a useless, ugly breed anyway and who would want a larger version???.......now that out to get a fight going....

It's not quite as simplistic as that. It's not I who is making the claim, but rather the Poultry Club of Great Britain. To use your original breeder analogy, you'd have to go back to, in this case, the original importers, to find out their intent, based on their actual knowledge of where the birds came from. In America we haven't done that, but in Great Britain they have continued to pass on that original knowledge, and have arrived at their conclusion that what we call bantam and largefowl Cochins, are not two different sizes of the same breed, silly as anyone may want to believe.

I'm not out to make some outlandish statements, simply to get a fight going. If I have facts and published references to back up my statements, I'll use them in a discussion to refute opposing views which have no such corroboration, to help people differentiate between what is true and what is not.

Hey, PRO, sorry you weren't involved in thread a while back. That remark about silkies is a tongue in cheek. There are people on this board that LOVE silkies and some of us that just don't see the fascination. We had great fun at each other's expense. Lighten up.

okay back to topic. we are trying to list all true breed bantams. that is breeds with no large counter part in the US. can anybody think of any others? the fact about the seabrights is very cool.

not alot of USA "true" bantams seems... would be neat to go see someone with setup of them all and all bantam even. wonder if some true bantams have made LG counter parts later, instead of like thought usually other way around? the best part of getting true bantams, is im betting its a better bet when buying, that you know what your getting and that getting a tiny chicken? what other true bantams are there out there in the world, and just not in states?
