They'll probably be able to bounce out of the tub in a couple of weeks, or worse, into the heat lamp. I strongly suggest covering it in advance with something like hardware cloth, and have the lamp outside that.

Other option: since the coop is already there (and past the quarantine period) you could just brood the chicks in the coop. That'll give them more space, and home them to the coop without any extra work.

You need to put a thermometer in their box. It needs to stay around 100 degrees. At About 3 weeks old they will start feathering out and discover that they can fly. Keep their bedding clean. Once they get about 2 months old you will need to feed them egg pellets. Make sure they do not get coccidiosis. I

Idk what you're smoking but you definitely don't switch to layer pellets at 2 months old! OP, do not listen to this.

Also temp is 100 for first week in one area as the hottest spot, make sure to create gradient of warm and cool so chicks can self regulate temp.
Week 2 is 95 deg, week three is 90...

If the poster who claims to switch uses that method an dher birds are healthy and haven’t been negatively effected by it,what’s the issue?

@WhiteWyan I done some research, and I see that you do not need to feed them layer pellets that early. @TheTwoRoos Thank you for your information, I agree that it won't hurt them.

I'm not an expert so maybe someone else can verify, but I don't think that tub is big enough for the lamp you have. I like to have the water farther from the heat lamp so it stays cool for them.

I agree, until I can get a smaller one, it's actually aimed across the tub instead of down at the floor.

I will probably put them in the coop at 2 weeks, then. I will buy a smaller bulb on the way home if I can find one. Maybe even just switch to a regular bulb.

You can switch to a reptile bulb if you feel 250 watt is too much, there's a variety of wattages from 60 to 125 or so? I keep a 75 watt as backup though I'm now mainly using a heating pad.

The issue is that this is wrong. I'm just saying you've got to be on something if you think they need the 2-3 times more calcium and 10-15% less protein than chick grower at that age when they are 2-4 months away from laying and still have growing to do.
It's just stupid to see someone giving advice on a forum when they admittedly hadn't done their research.

No hard feelings, @BantammChick. My mom fed her chickens nothing but birdseed for 8 years and I chewed her out for it. Of course I still love her!!

I swapped bulbs. I am now running a 125W white light. They will still sleep, right? The guy at Tractor Supply said they wouldn't, but t he girl there also said if I didn't have a coop I could just tie a string to my chicken's leg and tie that to a stake, so...

Like any baby they will still sleep. Any light, red or white, means they will have to adjust to rhythm of being awake during the day and sleeping at night.
