I feed a locally grown organic soy and corn free diet to my girls. I also feed organic BOSS, rolled oats, triticale and organic fresh baby greens and mealworms as treats. My girls look GREAT too!

As for cat food--corn is not a very bio-available protein for cats and would stay away from it for your cats. As for the chickens, I have read (wish I remembered where) that some cat foods are too high in sodium for chickens so read labels. I use only grain free foods for my pets, currently I feed Orijin.

On growing your own:

How much land?
How many chickens?
How quality the soil?
How much rain?

Many questions...

IMO Put in quality pasture grasses designed for your area. not bird seed. Plan to free range/pasture the birds.

Also plan a row or two for them in the garden.

Yes and no... Indeed the domestic chicken is far removed from it's ancestors... However, one can not argue that a chicken that is on quality pasture and eats grasses and bugs so forth is closer to "natural" than a "factory farm" bird in a tiny cage.

That may be true BUT most cat food contains Grain Products of some sort unless it posted as Grain Free.

Here is a well known brand of cat food.
corn meal, corn gluten meal, ground whole wheat, brewers rice, soy flour,
And here is there, "healthful life" cat food.
corn gluten meal, soybean meal, ground yellow corn, ground wheat, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), salmon, chicken, powdered cellulose, brewers rice, soybean hulls.

Here is a brand that says there, "the healthiest pet food in the world" (at 34.00 a 15 lb bag way over priced in my book)
brown rice, rice, flaxseed

Are you getting, "Kirkland Signature Super Premium Maintenance Cat Formula" from Costco? It is named Kirkland but Friskies/Purina put it out.
