TS/Hurricane Fay...we have to get ready..

Personally, I'm hoping for some much needed rain for our aquifer. The ideal storm would be very wet with not much wind, and sloooooow. Then maybe the counties could stop fighting with each other about groundwater and we could go back to a friendly rivalry with Georgia instead of hating them because they want the water Appalachicola needs...nothing like water wars to make people turn ugly quick.

If everyone prepped the way we should, there would be some flooding issues but it could sure be worse! I'm one of those who is not fully prepped...water would be okay but sustained high winds will be a problem for us. Fortunately it looks like I'll be able to pick up the loose stuff this afternoon. My yard is always the last thing to get done!

Please note: My call for a wet slooooow storm is NOT a wish for destruction or for anyone's home to flood. I am simply wishing for a good soaking for a state that is in need of water.

Any of you guys down there have generators? After the last bout of hurricanes, my family in Fla had to get generators and fuel. Good luck hope this one passes thru without too much chaos.

Thank you!
I went this morning to get a 12 volt lamp to replace the 110 volt bulb. I have an extra truck batt to power my bator. They have the bulbs in Walworld.

The path was right at me until the last report, now it is projected to fall east of us, that is good as most of the storm squalls are on the north east most of the time.

Good luck Fl folks in the path. Good to see it holding at 60 mph, soon it will hit land again, not good for them, but will help to keep it from gaining wind speed.

Get yourself a power inverter from an auto parts store or walmart that plugs into your cars cig lighter to convert to 110 ac.

If the power goes out you can put your bators in your car and plug them in, just crank and run the car about every 3 hours to maintain the battery.

Thanks Rooster...that's just what my daughter said. She has car converters for her laptop. She's going to bring it to me since I'm the one with the bator. She has the adult chickens and the junior ones at her house. I have the bators and chicks. The chicks are 2 weeks old. I think they would be fine with no light on them inside. AFter all, we wouldn't have a/c so they would be plenty warm!!

Is your bator a homemade? I ask cause those inverters drain a batt very fast. If it is homemade you can just replace the lamp and use the car batt direct to the bator, the lamp is for drop lights to be run off a car batt. The bulb cost only a $1.47 and fits right into a reg lamp socket.

Well wishes to you all down there in Fla., be safe and check when you can. Sounds like it is supposes to be over the Keys tonight?

I found it at Walmart in the RV section. Just today, not to many people use them anymore with all the new Leds and things. So I don't think people are snatching them up as other things would be.
Autozone would have them also I would think!

* Yep- the Keys are getting it pretty heavy. Islamorada is where the reporters all seem to be camped and they are having sideways rain intermittantly. Bonehead surfers out as usual. Brunt of it is scheduled for overnight, so I'm gonna take a nap while I can.
