I haven't logged into BYC in forever, so I apologize if this question has been blowing up in RBC! After taking almost 2 years off from buying and hand raising chicks, I'm excited to do it again! We're going to TSC today to pick up a few. They have "red pullets", "white pullets", "black giants", and dark brahmas.
I'm know the red pullets are usually a hatchery form of RIR, NHR, or Red Star/Other hybrid, etc. The black giants must be black jersey giants (although I'm not sure why they would stock those so heavily? They're SR and huge consumers, with no increased production. I've always thought them to be friendly, but not anymore so than Australorps, Orpingtons, etc.... Can anyone shed light on why my local TSC would almost over stock these? Maybe they're not BJG?)
But what are these "white pullets"? White Rocks? White Leghorns? Some white hybrid?
I'm glad they've stopped stocking the broiler chicks though... I can't count how many people I saw buying those for egg production/pets....
