TSC Sells Ships Chicks?!? Hoover's Hatchery (dropships)

Hoover’s sells Easter Eggers but calls them “Americana”. So it deceptively sounds like Ameraucana to the customer, but they aren’t really. The breed standard for Ameraucana only come in a few colors and lay only blue eggs. Americana/Easter Eggers are considered hybrids nowadays and come in a plethora of colors and patterns and lay blue, green, or brown eggs.

I say that HH should call them Easter Eggers. Less deceptive, and Easter Egger sounds better.

All of my birds come from TSC, who gets them from Hoover. Had two losses as "failure to thrive" the first evening with one of my batches, my other losses have been to injury or predation.

TSC is rightly famed for mislabeling chicks - in my case, they didn't even pretend, they left the labels off entirely. That's how I ended up with my "Rainbows", every one of which looks almost identical - a barnyard mix of NHRed and Buff Orp, with who knows what else mixed in.

I will also say, from my limited experience, that none of their birds appears to meet "breed standard", except perhaps accidentally. Fine for production, not for show. Can definitely be improved upon. and, none of the birds I've obtained from them have been diseased, so even if I didn't use a lengthy quarantine before introducing them to the mature flock, it would not have been an issue had they been forced into closer proximity than my current set up.

I have a TSC, Orschlen, and Rural king in my area, and they all have Hoover chicks. I just picked up 10, three week old chicks, of various breeds, supposedly all pullets, and they are all thriving.

I agree with the quality thing. My white leghorn pullet from there has 3 sidesprigs, really light legs, and some discoloration. My white leghorn cockerel from there on the other hand, is gorges. I don't want to breed Leghorns, but I be live he is good quality. His back may not be curved enough? Either way, total jerk. Partily why I don't want to breed Leghorns. I also have a single combed SLW, which isn't even close to standard.
