She turned 10 in July. I had to run out and get pics. She hates pics.....poor body image maybe....

Yes, TSC does take orders for chicks to be delivered to your door, like any of the hatcheries do. And they use the same hatcheries. My local TSC has had chicks delivered from Meyer Hatchery as well as McMurray Hatchery, too. Whoever has the best deal is who they order from, according to my local TSC's management, whom I talk to on a first-name basis, regularly. We have been doing business since they opened, so we know each other well.

The rules at TSC have changed and you can no longer handle the chicks. The other problem with getting chicks for feed stores is that a lot of times there is no one there that knows much about the chicks and they tend to get mixed up so you don't know what you are getting. also, I have noticed that Hoover Hatchery chicks are not always healthy.

Yup, you are! 😁

A great many TSCs use Hoover’s Hatchery for their in-store chicks and can order chicks through them for customers. I am assuming it depends on region what hatchery a TSC uses, but it sounds like Hoover is a major one.

A friend/kind of co-worker ordered 15 of the three Brahma varieties and I haven’t heard of any issues. The chicks sent to TSC stores are often mislabeled or id’ed in the store, so can’t really comment about sexing accuracy. I’ve heard of vigorous chicks and weak chicks, but a lot of this has to do with shipping and handling and care afterwards.

Hoover also appears to be one of the culprits perpetuating the “Americana” misnomer. They only have EEs.

Yep, I would say that it's the TSC employees who are making the mistakes, as most are not familiar with the different types of breeds, and types of fowl. I have to teach my local TSC employees so that they know.
