Turkey Coop Build

Today was a super day, really nice weather and we got a lot accomplished! Hubby was very helpful and got the door on the coop, then put on the roof! He also helped put the run panels in place. I made 2 more panels, painted them and tacked the wire on. Then we got busy and put all the panels up except the one that will have a door for the run. Tomorrow i hope to build the door and get the last panel on. This project is really coming together! View attachment 1461083

You can see hubby hard at work, and our supervisor is napping!
What type of turkeys are you keeping?

Heritage can fly well and will probably fly up on the run sides, especially with the wood for landing on unless it's covered, or birds wings clipped. Just a warning. :)

I have Naragansetts and another breed, i thought i was buying all the same type poults. Pretty sure 5 are jakes. The run will be covered when we finished. I did 1/3 of it tonight.

I got another piece of welded wire on top of the run after it cooled down this evening. I started on the third piece but ran out of wire and it was getting dark. I will still need to lash the pieces of welded wire together.

Tonight at dusk i finally got down to the turkey coop. I finished lashing the wire together, and stapled where it needed it. I need a 6x4 piece of wire to finish and i have only 3' high wire but i may just lash some together.
Really looking forward to getting the turkeys in there!

You are sooooo close!!
I can't wait to see them in there!
Me too! Here they are.... 20180711_153203.jpg
They hang around up by the barn and the quail hutches. But will also follow you around if they see you.
I finished up the wire on the roof of the run and we got a row of logs all the way around the run and coop except near the doors. I shoveled some fill in where there were gaps and watered it. That clay will dry hard.
Hubby worked on the door, putting trim in to keep the door from swinging in. I put a latch on the door to the run.
I asked him to find a small tree to cut to make a chunky perch for the turkeys to roost on. It is shaping up.

Expect a lot of complaints and fence walking from your turkeys when you put them in there. They absolutely hate change. I've seen them rub their snood clean off walking the fence to get out.
