Turkey Talk for 2014

He is a black winged bronze I was told they are a slow grower The pictures I posted his snood was retracted, it does droop past his beak at times. Hey R2elk I used to live at Casper, I loved it

Based on your further explanation, you are correct about it being a tom.

I am sure that you are not missing this winter's weather here. So far the low has been -27°F with several different bouts of -20°F. Lately it has been alternating between 40°F and sub zero almost every other day. The snow has been sticking around and preventing me from letting the guineas outside. Every time I get some bare ground, another dusting of snow comes along and covers it up.

Enjoy your time in Kentucky. Good luck.

I lived there for a short time then moved on to Billings, MT for 3 years then decided I had enough of the cold decided to move back east. the one thing I loved about WY is North Platt river I caught some of the biggest trout I have ever caught there

I hope your tom will settle down once he lets the others know he's the boss. Sorry about calling him a hen, it did look like a hen to me though. lol

Actually, I was glad you made the error too. I have one hen here that looks like a tom, but I am sure she is a hen, just a thick legged, large hen with a longer snood. She hangs with the hens, does not partake in any of the tom foolishness.

I have one tom that I was sure was a hen, He has thinner legs and shorter snood and nearly wartless face. Until he got the warts and started dancing and partaking in the tom foolishness I thought he was a hen.

Turkeys can be so hard to tell who is what to me, and as evidenced by my post, I get it wrong sometimes.

He is even starting to get aggressive to me as well I just hope he gets over it I love this bird so much. This will have to be the first turkey I ever had in my living room .. Strutting at that lol.. I have got so close this boy and the whole family loves him. I guess he is growing up on me my boy is growing up to be a big boy lol. I enjoy watching him grow up he is my first success I lost three this past year to black head disease. I learned how to prevent the disease. my others did not live past six weeks. this spring a whole new set up new incubator i will get me some eggs. If any body know a reliable farm to where I can buy some eggs it would be appreciated. there is no place near me. I would need to have them mailed to me

I will have some eggs sometime this spring, but for me spring is 6 months away ( well, it seems like it).

I have a short video of JJ my red slate re-establishing order today. I have had 4 teenage toms that have been driving me nuts, constantly fighting, pulling snoods, strutting and even trying to attack me. Today I noticed JJ my old tom taking control, and I saw no real challenges to his rule. The young toms were very well behaved today, not one of them even thought of coming after me!

Here is JJ at work, he almost seems like a bully in the video, but after watching the young ones for the last month, belief me he is only doing what needed to be done:
