He is even starting to get aggressive to me as well I just hope he gets over it I love this bird so much. This will have to be the first turkey I ever had in my living room .. Strutting at that lol.. I have got so close this boy and the whole family loves him. I guess he is growing up on me my boy is growing up to be a big boy lol. I enjoy watching him grow up he is my first success I lost three this past year to black head disease. I learned how to prevent the disease. my others did not live past six weeks. this spring a whole new set up new incubator i will get me some eggs. If any body know a reliable farm to where I can buy some eggs it would be appreciated. there is no place near me. I would need to have them mailed to me
Again this year, we will be selling and shipping turkey eggs. This year, we have added Narragansett. We have bronze and a Rio Mix pen. If you go to Chick N Stuff on facebook, you can see the parent stock. We are down here in TN and have a number of Kentucky customers (I started to say KY customers..and that just felt WRONG) LOL

Wow not over 11 months? lol I bet you do look forward to summer. How to do keep your birds water from freezing or do you do like I do go out everday busting ice. I keep a hammer close by lol

Absolutely. In fact, we just posted a large fowl mix of hatching eggs to our facebook page and also on E-bay. Turks will start laying in March and we will be able to confirm fertility by mid-march. We have a preference not to ship live birds until the weather is better here and at the shipping destination, but eggs will ship now just fine the way we pack.

I'm in Notheast Ohio near Canton. I'll have blue slate & mixed heritage eggs by about March & poults for sale by the beginning of May. I can ship eggs & poults both.

I would be interested in swapping poults or eggs if you have any interest in blue slates or mixed heritage.

A hammer would do no good, the water would freeze solid over night.

I do a couple of things.

I have a fount that sits on a heater in the coop. ( I know this sill shock some) but it is built for indoor use only, and UL approved. I use sand mixed with wood chips which are "damp" and I doubt would catch fire easily. I wish I could get them dryer...
This hold 6 gallons of water and I change it 2-3 times a week. I have a 2.5 gallon fount outside on a fount heater outside for the turkeys and chickens when outside. It is a 6 gallon heater good for 10 degrees. I get a weak ice on it when it gets below zero. Next year I will make a straw bale shelter around it and try 6 gallons again. The 6 gallon one froze this year.

I have 3 CX's in another building by themselves. they are my chubby babies. I carry them water everyday. They have a heated dog water bowl, I do not use the heater on it, as it is easy to carry the three water everyday. I use warm water and it stay thawed about 3 hours, they also eat snow, whether they have water or not,, dumb birds.

I look forward to the longer days when the water no longer freezes as fast.

BTW my coop is not near any other buildings, in case the heater shorts out.

Don't really have breeding room for Slates...what chicken breeds do you have?  You can send me a note via PM..since this is "Turkey Talk"  hahaha

My chickens are all currently mixed but I can separate out the silkie/sizzles once weather warms up. I do have ancona ducks, call ducks & pilgrim geese as well, but this isn't the weather for them to be laying either...lol
