Pretty to easy to make your own. I have made a few for my girls and found they are simple to make. Look at the basic design on line. Looks like a shield, a wacky shield shape. THen connect 1/2 inch dress makers elastic, the kind you buy at the fabric ship, not a real elastic like used to fold a newspaper. Start with a thin clothe to make the pattern.Cut from a thick material like denim. THen sew on the elastics and slip on WITH HELP.

Do you sew??

PS. THese still don't always stay in p lace and need adjusting. I often found them on the ground so gave up-- saw one girl pulling at it. Like a little girl figitting in her Sunday best!! lol

Thanks but after I thought about it I knew that either she or the tom would pull it off, that is why I started thinking vet wrap. I don't think they could get it off so easy. lol I do sew a little but still think the vet wrap is best. She is a big girl. :) Thanks

Do any of you keep your Hens separate from the toms?

I noticed tonight, for the first time, my poor little girls were being followed closely and pressured by the boys. I did not see any of them mount the hens. I am not sure JJ would allow any of them to mount one.

I am just thinking I should put them in the guinea fowl pen for a while, I know they will not like this as they are use to being free range. I do not want them beaten up by overly aggressive horny young guys either.

That can go either way really, but if the young toms are getting grown they will try and there will likely be fights over the hens. Some hens get hurt. You might need to pen up the breeders or the extra toms to cut out the competition.

I was afraid of that, I think I will lock up the hens to keep them safe and so they do not breed with a tom I do not want breeding. I should just send some to freezer camp but they are not quite large enough at only 8 months.

These are hunting dogs according to my son. Very short chains

if the dog doe not come to the owner when called, it is not a hunting dog. IMHO

I have hunting dogs there are a few commands they need to know. come. sit. stay, heel and close are a few of them.   I let my hunting dogs free range with my birds, they would never dare touch one.

The problem is not really the dogs, it's my son. These dogs moved here with him from his dad's house. He treats animals the way his dad does. He also treats women the way his dad does. Neither is good & Momma is ready to knock him in the head over both.

Silkie--- dogs tied up would never pass inspection here.  Everythiing  here us aimed at making any animal production near to impossible for the small  farms and  homestead type set ups. Just crazy.  I plan to train my newest dog/pup to be with me at all times around the farm. WIll need a good sit/ stay in place. lol

I hate his dogs with a passion. Would be so happy if they all disappeared. They never shut up

awwwww, sounds like unhappy dogs.  I only  tied mine out while we worked on a dog run design. IT quickly became chains as my smart one could bit thru the clothesline rope in a second. lol  I put out a long chain on a cider block so the location could be changed and the rope biter could be moved to any location. Sure loved it when we finished the dog pen.  THey got the WHOLE front yard and then some. . . . UPS driver would throw them dog buiscuits. Hope he didn't think that would bribe a rottie!! lol  ( Deliveries went to the side door ,, not the front. lol)

I am on the waiting list to get a puppy from a nice dog that hunts. SHe is a member of the family and lives in the house.  I think it is great to give a dog a job BUT the handler needs to create a relationship with the dog. CLearly the dogs view you a someone that is nicer to them. Poor dogs.

My dogs worked to protect my property and me . . . and could sleep outside like in the summer, or inside on my very good rug, with each dog having his own crate to use when wanted. I gave up letting the dogs sleep on the bed when I went from two to four. They are PIGS in a super king size bed. lol

Even the 2 in the house don't listen to him. The problem is him. He supposedly even spent thousands of dollars taking 2 of them to guard dog training. Funny thing is, those are the 2 that listen the least. These dogs hate him because he's mean to them. I'm just waiting on the 1 to turn on him & tear him up.
