What are they made of?

Update: My new hatcher we built is working great I am having great hatch rates with it! My ducks and turkey are popping right on out of it!
I am so glad we built it, it works so much better than the hova bator we bought last year!

Awesome news!!!!! That's wonderful and I hope to one day convince my DH that it would be worth it lol..

My hatch this time went far better, 12/12 of the chickens hatched an 8/13 of the turkeys, although I believe two of the turkeys may have died before lockdown... I feel better with this hatch and will continue to strive for a better method, I am testing hand turning to see if that changes anything..

The last poult to hatch this morning has deformed feet, Not sure how it will turn out but were going to give it a few days and see if it can learn to balance.. Anyone else come across this??

Wow very strange. I have never seen that before. If it does learn to balance its self and walk ok and you are breeding I would for sure not use it as one of your breeders, it could be a genetic defect and be passed along to offspring.

Exactly, that's what I told my husband, If it can balance and get around it will be one that goes to freezer camp.

Did anything happen with temps on day 5/6? Is the shank also shortened? Does the "ankle" fully flex?

Temps were steady throughout the incubation. I cant tell if the shank is shortened, when comparing it to the others it looks like its just the missing toes and one side is worse than the other, The brooder is sitting here beside my desk and I am watching it try and stand, it almost can but then topples to its right side, but its a feisty little one, it got to the water and food and is back in the dog pile sleeping..

Congratulations!

They were super easy to make. Took me all of 5 minutes to make them both...

Items needed:

Saw
Cardboard Barrel
Duct tape

I bought some 55 gallon drums a couple years ago made out of cardboard...

I cut the barrels roughly in half, then cut a "door" large enough for the turkey to go in and to cover the top of the barrel. I took the door and duct taped it to the barrel....

I am thinking of patenting this.... Oh I forgot a crucial step I cut the bottom out so rain goes through..
