Turkey Talk for 2014

we have green grass all year long here in Western Washington...Mild winters and tons of rain.

It's -6F right now and this is what my chicken yard looks like this time of year, heh. Sure it's pretty, and most of the time I love my climate. But there's a point in late January or early February when I just ACHE for spring. I long for green growing things, and I am tired of my nose hairs freezing when I walk outside. The state is coming today to do my NPIP testing, and they called yesterday to ask if we had any place the tech could draw the samples that was warm enough to keep the blood from freezing instantly. Oi. Yup, I did choose to live in NH. Don't mind me, in about three months I will have forgotten about winter entirely. :)

Wow that seems cold for Georgia, is it?

I live in NH also so my yard looks like DraigAthars. I just came inside from bringing my DD to the bus stop and it is pretty chilly outside. Poor goats are already crying they must be hungry and cold.

Good luck with the NPIP today. How many birds do you have to test?

Yes that's cold for GA. I'm in the northern part of the state in the mountains and we do get snow on occasions. 4-6 inches would be considered a lot. We get dustings pretty often. Typically coldest is in 20's. The temps have been pretty crazy this winter. During the Polar Vortex it was -20 wind chill. The next week it was in the 60's. I the mountains we usually get high winds, but not like this. Its supposed to be cold through the weekend so hopefully this winter some of the bugs will freeze to death. Last winter was mild and really wet. Bugs and snakes were terrible over the summer.

I have my NPIP info to read when I get a chance. I have 4 turkey, 2 ducks and about 40 chickens. I keep thinking I Want to get rid of this or that and then add a few. I have to get that straitened out then have them tested. This is starting my 2nd year with chickens so I'm still pretty new to it.
