400

I'd keep one and eat the other three. :) Mmmmm

I would but my freezer is full.

I bought an LG and hatch more than enough-- about $50 at farm store, less on line. Even a support group here on BYC to get the best results possible.

When I saw how simple the design was, I too made one out of what I had on hand plus the purchase of the water heater thermostat and a bottle lamp kit. I can fit waaaaayy too many eggs in tht as an incubator and use the LG for a hatcher.

Yinepu, with the number of hours you have spent hatching, I"m sure you know what you like. ANy emu's going in the incubator this year??

well.. lets see.. been hatching for over 50 years.. and I only take off about 2 to 3 weeks per year from hatching... so... yeah.. I've hatched out a few eggs.. lol

And yup.. I have around a dozen emu eggs in the bator as I type this.. a few due to hatch within the next week or so.. plus another coolerbator with chicken eggs in it and waiting for more eggs to arrive.. plus as soon as the ducks and geese start laying I'll be tossing their eggs in too.. not to mention peafowl... no parrots scheduled so far for this year.. but it's early yet!
A dozen?? HOly smokes!!! THat's a lot of mini velociraptors. What is the hatch rate usually?

Have any turkey eggs in cooking?

it's also a lot of freezer meat

.. this is the first year for our emu's eggs but so far they are acting good (wiggling)... from shipped eggs I got about 75 to 85% depending on the year

and no turkey eggs yet this year.. but the sweetgrass tom I got from my neighbor was caught breeding the Jersey Buff hen the other day... so it's just a matter of time

I posted where about in the past when I raised young Turkeys they tend to die about 2-4 months of age and people say it's blackhead cause I have chickens. Some person 2 years ago gave me a mature turkey hen and that turkey lived with my chickens for months and didn't die but I had to rid of her cause she punished my hens and rooster when she was eating and wanted all the food to herself by biting there combs/head and not letting go. How come she never died of the disease? I only find it hard when there young but once they mature it's no problem.

Maybe the adult birds are resistant? You could try getting adult birds & letting the hen raise the babies for you.

This is my first time hatching eggs. Last night, about 11:30, I noticed one of the chicken eggs had started to pip. The egg was moving quite a bit. Naturally, my brooder wasn't ready, so I was up until 2:00 working on it. There wasn't any more progress on the pip and nothing today. I haven't seen any movement, although I don't stand there and watch for long. How long do I give it before I'm sure he's quit?

Oh, I should say, it never broke through the shell.

Just because you have chickens doesn't mean you have blackhead (I have both chickens and turkeys and have never had an incidence of blackhead here).. poults can die from a lot of things.. what were their symptoms?
