Turkey Talk for 2014

Clear as mud...lol
Ok, so crossing my slates & palms should give all black (royal) the first generation & set up for blue & lavender when crossed back in the 2nd generation...right?

When breeding slates to royal palms what you will get in the f-1s is mottled black and mottled slate types.
To get blue palms you would then need to breed these together or back to a royal palm, then you will start to see the blue palms coming out.
Thanks R2elk for posting a pic of what the slate types produced will look like, As these get older you will see more white mottled feathers appear.

The lavender palms can only be produced if both parent birds carry a slate gene.
So you could get those by breeding two of the mottled slates together.

Thanks!

What would the ratio of Oregons be if you put the Silver Dapple and a Oregon together? Does the chance for Oregons increase with each generation if they were both second generation, third etc? Or would you go back to a different breed or bird in the line first? This is very interesting!

Statistically only about a 1/4 would come out the Oregon gray phenotype with this cross.
The only way to increase that on the next generations is to breed only the bronze based ones together.

Hey Kevin.. long time no see!

Lol.. I managed to miss ordering poults from you this past fall...  Any idea if you will have tiger bronze and blue pencilled palms available to order for next year?  I know you downsized abit.. and I haven't seen the blue pencilled palms listed for a while

I have been eyeballing his website too. Would love anything slate or pencilled...but just can't swing a full order on my own right now & haven't found anyone to split with.

Same here, I'm the only turkey person I know in my area hoping to find someone so we can ship one full order or I will end up just getting them all

I just really like the idea of knowing you are getting EXACTLY what you think you are getting.
