Turkey Talk for 2014

All 4 of my girls would have been out in less than 5 minutes. Your gurl was a bit slow with her escape...lol

Lol I knew she could, & would. The fence is only 5 1/2 ft tall. She normally roosts on top of our 7 foot tall coop. Which is exactly where she roosted last night. Lol That's ok. I really wanted to cover it anyway. :)

Hi guys i was wondering if any of you might be interested? I have some over 40 dollars in gift certificates From Metzer farms but I have changed from waterfowl to turkeys and was wondering if anyone would want to trade some turkeys or other for it ?

So glad you got to keep your turkeys!

Thank you, SS.
Thanks to those that posted poult pics. I was just complaining to myself (last night before I saw them) that no one had posted baby pictures lately.
Sonderah, glad the fence is working for you. Post a picture so we can see your accomplishment!

My garden is fenced with chicken wire. I covered it with bird netting last fall, and put the chickens (I think I had 40 some at the time) in for about two weeks while I wormed them and cleaned their coops, and they cleaned and fertilized the garden. It took them only a few days to dig under the fence, and escape.
This year, the fencing will be made tighter, and snug the ground. Then come fall, I will put the turkeys in there! They will be too big to fit under the fence, I won't be fretting about the cold or rain (though the chickens roosted outside in the rain), there will be fewer to move, and they will get the garden cleaned up much faster!

I can tell the eggs from my slate girls from the palm eggs. My tom is a slate, so those are pure. The slate/palm criss makes black & blue mottleds that then make blue, lavender & royal palms when bred together or back to a palm.

I have two slate hens and a royal palm hen bred by royal palm tom, so I will get the same mixes. How do you tell the slate eggs from the palms eggs? My palm is the only one laying so far and I've wondered if I would be able to tell their eggs apart when the slates start laying
Do you have any pics of the mixed offspring? I would love to see some. I assumed the royal palm over slate would make blue palm.

We actually had a discussion on these genetics a couple pages back. @Porterturkeys was very helpful in explaining the genetics. I can tell my eggs apart because my slates laid last year & I already knew what their eggs looked like. The palm eggs are smaller & marked & colored differently than the slate eggs.
400

The slate eggs are in the middle. Palm eggs on each end. This trick is not possible in every flock. I only know the difference because I already knew what my slate eggs looked like from last year.

It seems my turkeys are just getting practiced at the breeding thing. I haven't seen any of then seal the deal though.
No eggs yet either. :-(

Lol about the toms gobbling at everything, and our delivery guys really enjoy getting mine to gobble at them.

Too funny :)
