Turkey Talk for 2014

. He looks alil ruff I'm hoping to get him looking better. One question tho is his wings look normal?

He does look very rough. I personally would have walked away from people that sell birds that look like that. But on the other hand this poult may have better care with you:)

How else does he look health wise? Is he active and lively? He seems a bit hunched in the photo though it could just be his stance at the time the pic was snapped.

I think your turkey wants to tell you something

Got home and little early hatcher has got shell pipped about half way around and seems to be pecking well.

Fingers crossed he'll be out soon.

Update. The chick has hatched with some assistance. Membrane dried out and stuck to him and had unable to move forfew hours.

He's drying now if he makes it thru night ill put pic up tomorrow.

Hi, I have BBW that was doing fine and a few days ago it hit just over 90 and he was running in the backyard and just collapsed. His head was very dark red and warm and panting heavily. We got him in the garage with fans and water and after an hr he got up and walked out on his own. He has never been right since, he walked real slow and seemed to just fall asleep standing there and would eat and drink some, but not much. Today-4 days later, he won't even stand up. His head is dark red with a little bit of black in it and I felt just awful for him so we ended up culling him. He is my 1st turkey, was gonna be for the holidays, he is all processed and in fridge now, but I want to make sure it is safe to eat. Thanks

Also the insides looked good i think. The intestines weren't swollen and the heart was a good red, the largest organ that came out, I think the lungs, was a grey color unlike the rest, so being my 1st wasn't sure if that was normal. Also checked and no worms or anything that i could see.

Did you take any pics of his head? It sounds like heat exhaustion but that could have been brought on by illness. The black color you mentioned is a cause for concern. Maybe look up some pic's on blackhead and see if it looks like your turkey did. Sorry for your loss of you turkey.

I agree it does sound like maybe heat stroke of some sort. It could have been brought on by illness but there is no way to know now. Blackhead doesn't actually cause a black head, Fowl pox will cause black spots on the head there is a dry version and a wet version of fowl pox.

@lbrykowski2011 If you have pics before process it might help others to help you figure this out.
