The botulism toxin is produced by the bacteria, which can be killed by heat, but the toxin is still there. So it can kill ya' even after the cooties are dead.

I actually HAD mild botulism and survived, but believe me, suffer that and you will not be afraid you are going to die -- you'll be afraid that you won't die.

So it's not the case that just killing the cooties makes spoiled food safe.

What I'm getting at is, if a can is bulging, don't decide that cooking the pork 'n' beans inside will make it okay.

However, in this case, I wouldn't be worried about eating the bird.
