I’m a newbie, and first would like to say, thanks to everyone for all of the great chicken info. I wanted to share a funny chicken story with a twist. I have a game hen, which was recently given to me. Within the last week, she’s gone broody, and I’m trying to break the cycle. So every evening I take her out of the nest box and place her on the ground, outside of the coop/run. The very first thing she does is fly up and repeatedly attack my leg. She’s obviously not happy with the daily routine. Luckily she doesn’t have spurs and I’m wearing jeans, otherwise she might be visiting the stew pot. Yesterday, we went through the same exercise, with the exception that my border collie, Sarge, was standing by my leg. This time, the hen turned on him and proceeded to aggressively attack him several times on his head. Poor Sarge was so confused, and luckily, did not retaliate. I’ve since come to conclusion that the game hen must have come from some kind of fighting stock, don’t know for sure, but she sure knows how to fight and definitely isn’t afraid of dogs. Wish I had a camera; I saw it and still can’t believe it.

Those game chickens sure are fearless aren't they.
I had a bantam game roo that would run the cats away from their food dish and call the hens to eat it. Poor cats looked so pitiful while watching the chickens eat their food.

I don't know why a chicken is related to a coward because they simply are not.

While at a friend's house his chickens were running around the house and a hawk came down and picked one up. There was a little struggle and a drop of blood came down and then they were gone.

Two days later the chicken came home mad as hell. NO cuts but a few missing feathers. The blood had to had come from the hawk!

No chickens in this coupe!

Poor Sarge!
We have some wild game hens that run around the neighborhood. I was not 10 feet away when a hawk swooped down the get a baby next to it's mom and she FLEW over my house after that hawk. There were feathers flying and they weren't hers. Guess your hen really wants to be a mom.

LOL my Golden Sebright Roo and my German Spitzhauben Hen do that! Winston puts his paw up and looks away like he's trying to protect his face.
