Two day old chick dirty butt area

Thank you. The poor thing has hatched and still has a very thin thread of cord attached to itself and its shell. Its moving and dragging the shell along with it. Its been hours now and still attached. It also has unabsorbed yolk, about the size of a large pea. What do you suggest i do?

What about the cord though? As its still attached to both him and the shell, i would have to hang the shell over the side of cup?

If it'll stay in a cup. Mine are always super active. Once it's dry you can put antibiotic ointment around the yolk. Make sure it's not the pain management ointment.

As for the cord it'll dry up and fall off. You can cut it loose from the shell but cut as close to the shell as possible.

Yolk butts need a little bit of extra TLC. I'd keep the chick by itself so it doesn't get picked on.

Ok thank you. It is active, i will go and cut the cord now. I only have one brooder with two chicks in. How long shall i leave it in the incubator before it being a low risk of being picked on?, its my last egg so could i put food and water im incubator?

As long as its heated and has food and water it'll be fine in there. Keep the humidity high still so it can absorb better.
I had a bad yolk butt and it's been in the incubator for almost 2 weeks. As soon as it absorbs it can go in with the others. If they pick it they could pull its intestines out.

Oh wow, that sounds awful. Thankfully my first chick which hatched two days ago and also had the same and has absorbed it, although this is the chick with the dirty butt. Its currently im the brooder with one that hatched yesterday which was totally perfect and as cute as a button.

Yeah my chick had a lot of problems. It has a big scab now but still isolated.
Dirty butt? Are you talking about the umbilical cord?

Glad your other 2 are doing well.

No its poop that just seems to get all over its fluff, it was also yolky i think, could that be the rest of the yolk absorbing as it had that small external yolk sack?
