Two dead chicks in brooder pen

I purchased the medicated feed already, but plan to start feeding it to them after they finish the 5 day Corid treatment (which will be Thursday) since I don't want to 'over correct' the problem.
That makes sense.

I was also wondering if I should give them electrolytes and/or probiotics to help them recover once they're off the Corid.
Check labels, so you don't give anything with added thiamine when they are on the medicated feed.

I think they should be fine without electrolytes or probiotics, but I think it would also be fine to offer those if you want to, as long as the chicks also have a source of plain water so they can choose (the same way you offered it back at the beginning of this thread.)

I had one of mine do this. I poked my head in to check on them 2 nights ago, and I almost had a heart attack. I reached in and grabbed the baby, which made a thoroughly unsettled series of noises, then proceeded to cuddle into my hand and go back to sleep. I think my heart rate stopped then doubled in about 2 seconds.
When my first batch played deadchick, all face planted in the brooder necks cocked at weird angles, I for sure thought I killed the whole batch. Then I found a thread with pictures of 'not dead chick(en)s' and realized this is 'normal' chicken behavior. It's a funny thread, but I can't seem to find it now.

I've already got grit in their brooder, as I did bring in some dirt from down by where their coop is. They had it for several days, and loved it. I was changing it out every day so it was always "clean dirt" lol. But the past 2 days we've had rain. So that dirt is now a sandy, red clay mess and I haven't given them any those days. Maybe today if the weather holds out. Their medicated feed will be here tomorrow.
Giving them a "break" from it isn't a bad idea. It gives them a chance to recover and build up a tolerance if there is something in the soil.

I was thinking along the same lines. I check butts religiously and check the brooder for poop to make sure there is nothing abnormal. They leave plenty of poop on top of their brooder plate to inspect as well. 😆

I think I've seen that thread, and it is funny. That was the first time I had caught one snoozing that way. And it was late, my last night check before I went to bed. So it was dark in the room they're in, and the only light was from a small lamp in the hallway. Just enough to see its silhouette. Scared me to death.

When the Corid course is finished, give your birds a general multivitamin to replenish the thiamine and boost their overall systems. It saved my d'Uccles after a particularly devastating "crash."
