Two-legged predators

I'm very sorry you had to deal with that. Personally, I find nothing quite so infuriating as someone who thinks they can just take what I have because it's there and they want it. My second biggest peeve being trespassers. Our house was broken into only a few months after we moved in. While we live in a nice community, it's also fairly isolated and in the summer time, kids tend to get bored (and some get destructive). With that in mind, we constructed our coop and run to withstand a bear (which we also have in the area), but we added the locks and adjusted our home security cameras to deter the bipeds as well. There is no way they can access the run without being on camera, and we can access our cameras anywhere we have an Internet connection.

first off-DO NOT put up signs that say anything about being armed--they tell you that when you take a gun carry class-it shows you have intent to shoot someone--and can hurt you legally------not good!! Put up one of those that say "SMile you are on camera" they don't have to know if you do or don't have cameras------and lockup the coop. I would be so mad. Hope you find something out.

I don't exactly live in the most crime free area. I have a sign from a home security company out front. I like to think that it's keeping me safe. I also like to think it's helping with the chickens. I've had people interested in them but only because I take them out front for their daily treat walk and passers by sometimes stop to visit them. So far everyone has been friendly and hasn't raised any red flags. Gosh, I'd hate to have to lock them with a lock!

So sorry for your loss! I just don't GET people like that! So they steal something... after it's sold or whatever, it's gone, then what? They still have nothing.

It happens more then you think. especially were chickens are in plain view for neighbors or people who dont like chickens (or love chickens) to see and steal....They bring good money at auctions and craigslist so people hurting for money are most likly the ones to commit the crimes. Locks are the bes thing you can do, one of my coops is right on the road and is locked up

cameras are the best option.

fairly cheap and with a dvr, you can watch them remotely on your phone or other internet device.

even a camera only hooked to power that lights up at night is a great deterrent.

I keep thinking about a camera... but... if a thief notices it (don't they have a flash?) would they just steal the camera too? I need to read up on them to see how they work.

Video cameras don't have a flash. At night, ours switch to infrared. A thief may notice, but it's unlikely if you place them well and mount them out of easy reach. Plus, they are typically covered under your homeowners insurance should they be vandalized.

A thief can steal a camera, but a smart installer will have a camera high and out of the way on the first camera.

also, there are different wavelength camera infrared's some cant be seen with the naked eye.

my cameras got great video of a hawk eating my silkies
