Two-legged predators

We did. The police officer was very kind... though it's kind of hard to explain hen behavior to a non-chicken person (he thought maybe someone just opened the doors and the chickens wandered out into the dark, and I was trying to explain that my chickens wouldn't have left the coop on their own in the dark.) But he did offer some security suggestions, and said that he would have the graveyard shift increase their patrols up and down the alley. Beyond that.... he said there wasn't much he could do.

I totally agree. It's been going on longer than the economy has been bad. Ppl just think they can do anything now and its excusable....I wish those thinkers would just dry up.

I'm very sorry for what happened!!

I just hate the things that people do any more. It's been more than a couple of months now when I decided to start locking the run gate every time that we are gone for more than a couple of hours and also every night. We are in a rural area so don't have really close neighbors.......we had a ring-and-run at 12:13 a.m. not too long ago and it just confirmed to me (and my husband) that I made the right decision awhile ago to start locking my babies up. Dang people anyway.....nothing is sacred any more.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope the thief is caught. I take plenty of precautions. I padlock my coop, I have cameras, and my property is posted. Someone asks nicely and I'm able, I'll give them a couple of young roosters. They try to use something like a crowbar to break into the coop, I'll give them buckshot. I will not tolerate thieves, but I will always try to help someone in need..
