Hello fellow Silkie enthusiasts! I have a couple roosters I'd like some Silkie breeders/experts to critique for me. I have a lot of trouble finding good pics and explanations of how a Silkie should look. I know the spotted white boy is not an accepted color but I'm wanting to know thoughts on these boys' type/confirmation. What are their good points? What needs work? Etc. Any pics you can offer with explanations would be great! Thanks!

First 3 pics are blue or possibly lavender roo.

Last 4 are what I've been told is a Calico.

Are you planning to breed them? Yes, pictures of your chickens would help greatly.

Yes, I'm not striving for standard colors. I like the mixes and plan on selling them to people who are not planning on showing. If I'm going to be breeding I want to be breeding the best I have and working on improving confirmation.

I also have a paint roo that I will try to get pictures of this evening. What are the main things I should look for? In my hens too. Shorter legs and back correct?

Last four look like porcelain. Don't know what calico is in chickens. Kinda looks like there's some buff in the first roos, too. They look good. You can breed them to breeding quality hens to get a better quality bird. Be sure you let your buyers know that they're not standard colors.

Yes, I always do let people know on color. Most people I sell to just want a pet or some fun layers.

I guess what I'm wanting to know is what makes a breeding quality Silkie. What attributes do you look for?

Okay. Just making sure.

Mainly, the classic silkies features. Blue skin, five toes, docile personality, and their feathers. They will have some hard feathers on their wings. I had a silkie roo who had some hard feathers with his tail feathers, not something you want in a silkie. If they're good quality, they'll be labeled as "breeding quality," and even better birds will be "show quality."

I bought them from someone who claimed they came from show lines. They were chicks when I got them though.
