U know it is WINTER when your CHICKENS "AND" ____ are...

You know it is winter when your chickens stay on the roosts all day.

You also know it is winter when your hands get so cold and stiff that it's hard to type after going outside... even with Carhartt's best gloves on ya. Or, maybe that's 'you know you're old'. :old
I watch the wheather reports.. If it wasn't flowing this way, you would be 150*C below:oops:. I have deep respect for your boldness and perseverance. Absolutely no jealously..

You know it is winter when your chooks are sleeping by the heater all day...

And when your chooks feeder and waterer have icicles hanging from them.
I have been breaking ice caps in the mornings. Tomorrow will be 3 days in a row. In the south it never goes 3 to 4 days in a row.. I feel your pain. Thank goodness I can only feel it in periodic intervals... lol

When it first started to get really cold, the ducks had a pool of water from the previous day. Was iced over, had to break it. Hose has ice inside as of today, so no filling pool, ducks are super unhappy. (Wouldn’t let them swim in weather this cold, anyway..)

You know it is Winter when you have a timer on bright LED lights in your Egg House to justify having 70 hens providing only 3 eggs a day but still consuming ALL THE GRAIN it takes to give you a bounty of eggs...

Also when you have to keep on your toes to get your eggs into a REFRIGERATOR to keep them from freezing!

You're the people that deal with 100*F every summer :bow
That's why our store's shelf stock is empty of HEATERS, JACKETS, THERMAL UNDERWEAR.. etc.. WE ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO HAVE THIS. We do have an occasional 14 to 22*, but not a week straight..
Usually we freeze and jump back up. If we linger in the 30's/low forty's at 3PM.. we run for THIN BLOOD cover..
My Chickens feather coats have never looked so grand.. They saw it coming.
