U know it is WINTER when your CHICKENS "AND" ____ are...

How do you manage to keep small birds with large birds together? I have had zero positive experiences in my attempts.
My tiny birds would become dinner for my big girls.
:idunno If anything, the bantams are the bullies. One of the OEGBs (not pictured) was bought as an adult bird. After three days (or maybe two) in the integration pen, she escaped, ran straight for the coop, hopped up on the roost, and slept there all night. She integrated perfectly in three days. Wasn't even any pecking involved.

How she knew where the coop was I don't know. She had been in there once before for 5 minutes whilst I cleaned her pen.

My LF and banties littles and bigs.png get along too, but the bigs tend to push the littles out of the food. I have to set up lots of food stations to prevent this.

Back in our birdie starting days, our daughter raised show birds with me for ffa/4-h etc. Most of our smaller birds couldn't be place with our egg birds no matter how long we tried. The following and last year we just sold them after the fairs. Kiddo grew up and we just concentrated on egg layers..big boys..

I srarted with my small breeds. In. A smaller. Pen ajoining the big pen for 3 months or so. Then let together during day. Thenthats where pecking order comes in. I let things go until ir looks like gettung bad.

You know it is Winter when -
You let your Doggies out to go potty and they run right to the backyard to the glass French doors and whine and cry to be let back it without going potty.

Also, your timer goes off before Sunrise to turn on bright lights in your egg house to boost egg production. The Roosters crowing at 4:30am let's you know the lights are working..:lau
