U.S. drought fallout . . . might it affect all of our ducks?

After repeatedly contacting Purina about their allowable levels, I finally received a reply. I thought I would share so that anyone following this thread or finding it will have the info.

Subject: RE: Aflatoxin rate in Flock raiser

Basically as little as we can possibly control. We test incoming ingredients and refuse those that are contaminated. If there is any aflatoxin present, it is generally extremely low, below the limit of detection (which is 5 parts per billion), well below any level that would remotely be a health concern (the allowable limit, according to the FDA, in a finished feed for poultry is 20 ppb, which they have deemed the upper safe tolerance level. The upper safe tolerance level is defined as that concentration which can be continuously fed without negative health effects). To the customer’s concern, we don’t have a formulated allowable limit – we are always shooting for zero contamination. That’s why we spend tens of thousands of dollars every year on ingredient testing.

Does anybody know who makes the Dumor feed for TSC? What about their aflatoxin levels?
You know, I didn't think to ask but Miss Lydia is correct that it is Purina. I'll just have to call again to make sure, lol. In fact, I have the nice person's email, who finally got the info to me, so I will email her back with this question. I will assume for now that it is the same, as the Dumor comes out of their plants and is made with the same corn, ect., that the regular Purina feed is made from. As I know how the word assume breaks down, I will follow up with an email back, just so we know. When I hear back I will post the results.

Did anybody ever get the lowdown on Dumor vs Purina feeds? Would you consider Dumor as safe as Purina for ducks and geese?
From what I was told, they use the same standards for both. Would I use Dumor feed anymore? No. Not with the problems with last year's corn. After seeing all of the recalls before the wide spread problem with the aflatoxins, I just wouldn't trust it for the ducks and geese. My opinion and experiences only.
