UGH.....Rooster crowing at 3:30am!!!

I'm glad someone thinks its funny. My SO doesn't think so since he is the one missing his sleep.

He is a good sport about it though. He knows how much I love my birds.

I THINK John Henry takes a hour long break between 1 and 2 am, but I can't swear to it. He goes off all the time! Luckily, the coop is at the other end of the house from the bedroom.

Right now, it's the big EE roo, John Henry, and the Bantam GS roo Pico. But check my signature line- I have seven more practicing!

None of my three cockerels are crowing yet, and I am sure I will enjoy the sound, but I am also sure their saving grace will be that my DH takes his hearing aids out at night!

If it bothers you, try a few of the following. They helped our rooster delay his crowing by about 2 hours. Now he starts around 6 instead of 4. Still early, but do-able!

1.) We leave a light on in the coop until we go to bed. That keeps them awake a bit longer and delayed the hour that he started crowing. Although, 1 night they turned on the light in the middle of the night and started crowing at like 2 a.m.!!! So UNPLUG the light when you go to bed!!! HA!

2.) We covered the window of the coop at night. It helps stop any light from the moon.

3.) Pray - please God let this rooster sleep until the sun comes up!

Good Luck!

Roosters protect the flock, so he is probably getting alarmed by noises at night and crowing to scare away the noise. Hopefully it isn't really a coon or fox, just a noise:)

My roos name is Ricky also

I don't pay attention to the middle of the night crowing anymore. I can wake up - hear them and go right back to sleep. Now, we have become good at sneaking to the bathroom WITHOUT turning on the light. If you turn on a light they are both screeching!

You will get use to it and not pay it any attention after a while. You will also learn a regular crow from the "OMG we are going to die" Crow.

Good luck and enjoy your ricky roo roo

My Spitz roo did that in the morning around three AM but luckily all the neighbor's windows were closed up for the winter!

Here I have to many roos to come up with any kind of plan. Luckily no neighbors real close to disturb.

However I do have to sneak to go to the bathroom. I have to sneak past my two pot bellied pigs. If I happen to wake them up they will scream like its meal time.

Well we're the only one that Ricky wakes up because there's no one near us. The other thing is that Ricky isn't in the coop. He goes up to the top of the loft in the barn to roost. He absolutely refuses to go into the coop or the run.

I don't know what kind of life he had before he got dumped off here but he definitely doesn't like being confined. Every night he hops/flies until he get up to the top of the loft in the barn to roost. I'd rather have him there than in the trees where he was roosting.

He's crowing his little head off now. I can deal with it at this hour though! LOL
