Uh...my girls just killed a toad :(

A bird managed to make a nest in upper corner of our run roof. Baby bird fell out, and , well...... one less bird in the world.

Another BYCer told the story of the neighbors that had just recently acquired a puppy -teacup sized breed. It was so small it walked right through the chain link into the chicken run... and, well...neighbors no longer had a puppy.
Uh...guess they should not "free range" their dog! Lol

Oh hey! That was me! I'm never going to be able to escape the girls little scooby snack am I? :gig

Good, hens tend to not like snitches...they end up in ditches.:D

Or the stewpot!
:gig

There is a rather large lizard that lives in my yard. The girls will chase him all over the yard. They haven't attacked him, which is kind of surprising. They seem confused by him more than anything. But if I see all 5 of the girls zig zagging across the yard, I know Mr. Lizard has decided to make an appearance. I'll get video if I remember. It's a hoot!

So...yuck! I don't know if it is more intriguing, disgusting, sad or barbaric but...poor toady! They are playing keepaway now. Should I let them play or are toads not ok in their lil food chain? I guess this time my GIRLS are the predators. Ugh
I hope they eat it.
It's the partially disemboweled baby mice they drag about that looks pretty disgusting.

Toads do have toxic poisons in them. They're not really harmful to humans or large animals. But they can be deadly to small animals like cats and small dogs if ingested. I don't think I'd let my chickens eat one personally.
Here the chickens seem to know which are edible and which are not.

I find that fascinating about chickens. They don't touch the jasmine bush in my yard. I've had the jasmine forever and didn't realize it was toxic until after I got chickens. I'd have removed it had I known. But they steer clear of it. And the older girls are brooder-raised.
