Uh Oh Kittens soon?

I would definitely spay. If you don't, you'll wind up with up to 6 kittens who will all be able to reproduce within 8 months or so. Even if you can re-home, why not encourage people to adopt from a shelter? Cats and kittens are among the most abused, neglected and dumped animals out there, largely because people are too irresponsible to fix their pets. Also, by not having the tom neutered, he faces dangers from cars, other predators and other toms as males will travel up to five miles to find a female in heat.

If you like the idea of having kittens around, go to the local shelter & foster a litter. They'll be grateful, I assure you.

Sorry for the lecture, but a lot of people don't realize the impact one unfixed cat or just one litter of kittens can have. Good luck!!!

PS. My local humane society does low cost spay/neuter for $25 (boys) $35 (girls).

Wouldn't it be nice if we could adopt unwanted cats from these places and make barn cats of them.

Cats don't have to mate a certain number of times to be bred...they are induced ovulators, so can be mated with at any time without having to come into heat like a dog. You can most likely assume she's pregnant. I would go ahead and spay her though...there are way too many unwanted kitties out there as it is.

I understand the whole overpopulation of cats and such. Most of our cats came from a shelter except the two we have now that were drop offs. Our shelter charges $80 for a cat which in my opinion is nuts! The last cat I got from the shelter I took him to the vet to have it declawed and it ended up having feline lukemia when the shelter said it was checked and vaccinated for it.

I was so mad.It ended up dieing two months later.I wont expose my cats to anything that the shelter has.My friend fostered some pups from there and they ended up having parvo and killed her dogs to!!Anyhow I'm sure there are some good shelters out there but ours is crap!!
I would take full responsibility for her litter and would not give them away but instead keep them here and yes fix each and everyone of them so it wouldn't happen again

Wowza, our local shelter says they test for feline leukemia, but Parvo is so common I really wouldn't blame the shelter for that one. In fact, why wasn't your friend's adult dogs already immunized?

but anyway, I personally would spay asap. The fact that this one got bred before you got her spayed kinda doesn't speak very well for your spay/neuter track record

What if you had 4 female kittens, more expensive to spay, and 2 of them got bred before you could afford it?? Seems like a lot of potential for disaster, especially given your current situation.

Also, my understanding is that it's a very humane procedure for the fetuses as well. They go under with Mom's general anesthesia and just never wake up.

I didn't ask for a bashing but simple information on how to tell if she is gonna have a litter. We love ALL our pets and take great care of them but do make mistakes like any other human.Sorry but 4 young children,70 chickens, 6 ducks, 3 cats, and working 11 hrs a day 5 days a week yeah somethings do get forgotten at times. So thanks for your helpful information by the way

Their gestation period is short (about 65 days) and they show pretty quickly, especially when they're still kittens themselves. They will often become more affectionate, especially towards the end. Their nipples pink up, particularly with a first pregnancy. They also start climbing into small hidden areas pretty fast, looking for a place to have them. Often the spots you'll see them getting into are impossible, but they still like to check 'em out. Since you have kids you would have to watch and make sure she doesn't have them somewhere weird that will get them killed. I say this because she's not going to want to give birth where she thinks the kiddos can get to her. If she feels unsafe she may slip outdoors to have them. Don't get insulted when I say unsafe, I have had several dumpees show up in the early stages of labor. She most likely won't want the event to have witnesses - particularly not kids. I'm sure you know that they would need constant supervision with kittens. Anyway, the loss of her heat cycle and the urgent poking around are probably the two earliest signs.

It is possible for her to get knocked up again just 48 hours after giving birth.
Just gotta say I still think fixing her would be the right thing to do, but good luck with whatever you decide.
