Thankfully I've never had them, not sure if we get them in the US. I would burn the coop and replace with a spiffy new one...

I think I’m going to have to, it’s seriously depressing when you spend so much time cleaning & debugging only for them to take over again. This prolonged warm & dry weather we are having really does not help either. I’m going to start looking for a new coop I think but I will need to hang on to the end of the month as I’ve already spent my extra cash on a new fly rug for Harry horse.

I have a new shed that I was going to replace my coops with this year. But with one thing or another it's something I just haven't gotten around too. The only problem with wooden coops is the mites get in everywhere including under the roofing felt. My friend who has a couple of omlet egloos had them but took it out steam cleaned it job done!

I have read that the plastic coops are great for keeping mites out. :)

I have a green frog. It’s made from recycled plastic. They’re not totally cheap but about the same as buying a really good quality wooden one and it’s guaranteed for 10 years but likely to last 20+ and zero maintenance which suits me. I haven’t got red mite yet but I did read a review of the coop where a lady got red mite but she found where they were hiding and jet washed and they were gone. It clips apart and back together easily so you can dismantle the whole thing for a really deep clean. I love it so far but early days. It’s also very cool inside on these hot days (I was worried it would be hot but it’s the total opposite) my girls have been going inside in the middle of the day to get in the shade.

Though I have to say they don’t sleep in there at night! They’ve taken to roosting on a high branch in the run at night but they go in a lot during the day so they must like it lol

I've not heard of that. But I'm beginning to think that plastic coops are the way forward. I smokebombed my other two coops on Saturday, when I go in I can feel mites again. I used a litre of total mite in each coop and powder! The warm weather doesn't help. It's like guerrilla warfare against mites at the moment!

Mine used to sleep in the run in the summer months but I had to take the perch out to put a growout pen in there for the chicks. I have to leave the doors open because it's so hot in there at night. Poor things. Someone said they look like gargoyles as they sit there with there wings away from there bodies!

I like your style! That's a nice coop. I wonder if I could get one for 20 hens! I do seem to spend alot of time cleaning mine out the moment. Funnily enough it's not so bad in the winter. Thats when I do the run!
