Yes, I prefer waterfowl over chickens (not offending anyone) but a lot of ducks lay more eggs than chickens, they are more intelligent and don’t tear up the ground. Have you considered getting ducks? Domestic ducks don’t require a pond.

I have around 60-ish chickens. About 20 of those are rare Breda Fowl - then I have my egg ladies..
I live in the Finger Lakes region of NY state.

There's a long story behind this, but yes I have considered ducks. I have ordered on 3 separate occasions and something has always happened to prevent delivery....so I take it as a sign that I'm not supposed to have any :(
