UK Member Please Say HI

I've got 20 hens! A bit of a mix really. I started with 6 warrens then I got 4 whitestars! Then I got two bluebells two white Sussex two brahmas! I lost a few so I replaced them with two more bluebells (they are lovely hens) two Araucanas I got a couple of marans for my birthday last year and I also have six ex battery hens! And some quail! Chicken math took hold! If you look at my coop on my profile you can see. Post a pic of barbara and we can try to identify it.

20?! That's awesome! I've uploaded a pic of Barbara, caught red handed yesterday morning eating one of the other hen's eggs. I might have to take a better picture of her this evening when I get home from work.

Welcome to the forum :)

Thanks! :)

I'd say that she is a Warren hen. I'd probably try to stop her from eating the eggs aswell.has she been doing it long?

Cool, that's good to know! We're just starting the process now we've identified it's her. I talk more about it here in my introduction post: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/good-day-fellow-egg-factory-enthusiasts.1239150/
I just had a read. I think you've got most angles covered! Funnily enough it was egg eating that bought me here too. I ended up putting proper nest boxes in. Mine were just open plan boxes! Now I have three 15"x 12" nest boxes. I have made them so they are a bit dark and they have an 8" gap to get in and a angled lid. It is a bit of a small entry but spacious when there in there. I also separated the two offenders for a couple of days. This worked for me. Golf balls, fake eggs and mustard eggs didn't! Good luck with breaking the habit it can be a pain to stop it but not impossible! Don't go wringing any necks! Keep us posted and don't forget we love pictures!

Separation is where we're starting, I need to construct a temporary living arrangement for the offender though, which is this weekend's job! We're going to expand their run soon so I might as well expand and improve their nest boxes while I'm at it, hopefully this will all stop the egg eating.

Hi everybody. Been a bit quiet on here recently. How's all doing? How did you get on with your incubating @Nethielka and @Warriorgal? Hope it's gone well.
I've just had to set some eggs. Cut a long story short I had a hardcore broody, she wouldn't break so I decided to put her on some eggs, then she stopped being broody! Sounds about right! So now I have my incubator in the kitchen warming up ready for the 8 Araucana eggs! If you want to see more I'm logging it on a thread. Day 1 so not much happening yet!

So are you glued to the incubator now!? When I hatched my quail they started pipping at about 1130pm I ended up setting up a chair just watching them for hours!

For the last 4 days I have nipped in there every opportunity to see if there are any pips (day 21 was yesterday and I was getting worried) Now every 10 mins im checking in there to see if the pip has unzipped more and if the other two have pipped. I have batch two (3 eggs) in there too)not due until Sunday next week so they shall have to forego turning... not the best option I should have planned it better. I guess its wait and see now.

It's eggciting! I'm going to put mine in later. It's hard to not obsess a little bit. It will be good when they're all hatched doing fine scampering round!
