Yep! In the North East of England tooIm from middlesbrough on the North east...HybridChucks is also in England...if she hasnt also said so!!!
I did indeed! They're lovely
I just lost the first of my ex batts.she hasn't been a picture of health for a while but has been eating and drinking fine. Flora lost alot of weight and I struggled trying to get her to put any back on. We found her yesterday on her side in the run. We bought her in and put her next to the radiator with some yoghurt and fresh water. Sadly she died today. Under closer inspection I think she had a tumour, her underside was really hard and painful to touch. Bless her soul. She had her last 15 months being free and being a hen.
Ah I see, perhaps a shelter that is high up and a cat couldn't possibly climb up? I can't say I relate as mine are Diamond Doves, which are a very small species. My birds have a large aviary with mesh all around, they fly around in it not as good as freedom but predator free. Well done for taking the doves on, they're lovely creatures <3Welcome to all those new to the thread; it's nice to see you all here.
Sorry to hear this, @CCUK. I'm glad she was able to have a proper home with you after her ordeal, but sorry that she did not have longer to enjoy her freedom. I hope her sisters' health continues.
@Hybridchucks, I used to care for doves owned by an elderly neighbour. I was given them by his wife after his death but was forced to pass them on due to buzzards, magpies and cats taking the squabs. Any ideas on how one can keep them secure whilst maintaining their freedom? I built a long loft type dealy with a mesh aviary, with an exit port at the top front. The cat could climb it and it did nothing to deter avian predators.

Ugh that's annoying...Yes, shelter was up high on the back wall, but the crafty thing would get up the mesh. No idea how, but it is what it is. I probably will not try again with them, at least for now, but they were lovely to be around. My favourite was a grey and white female, obviously with pigeon blood.
Diamond Doves are lovely; just had a look. They're so tiny and that red eye-ring is delightfully weird. I'm glad you're enjoying them.
Aww! That looks lovely! I've not seen them with such a red ring around the eye.
