UK pigeon owners

Good news on both fronts! If the trio is still doing OK I would leave them alone. However-
If someone wanted a very tame pigeon, the big one would be easy to hand feed at that age... like i did with Doo. That would leave two sibs closer in size for the parents.
That's a good idea! How would I go about hand feeding the big one? Would it need kaytee or would something else be ok?

I don't believe you need Kaytee. Is he getting pin feathers now? about 10days old? Just going by my experience with Doo...
I used all flock or flock raiser pellets, not layer feed, Mixed with warm water in a blender to make a gruel formula he could slurp out of a little bottle. I also fed him some thawed frozen peas. Somewhere I have posted pics the feeder I rigged up.
The temp of the gruel is important, ~99-101F.

I did flavor it up with a tsp of peanut butter in the hot water to make a peanut flavored broth and I add some nutritional yeast flakes. That would be optional for the baby. I give my loft birds this peanut flavored chicken pellet mash to get them to consume the pellets for the vitamins and other good stuff they contain. Otherwise they find the pellets unappetizing. 80% of their diet is seeds.

You and I think alike....

I was going to suggest that so the largest does not hog up all the nutrition offered by parents. Leaves the parents to feed the 2 smaller ones, while the larger already has a full tummy. It is only critical during the early period, when quite developed, they will all catch up.

You already did that and have experience on how,,,, especially the temperature factor. :thumbsup

:highfive: Glad you agree, I hope there's no downside I'm missing. I had no choice with Doo as nobody was feeding him anymore but he sure taught me how and how easy. :D
I have heard of people just taking a baby to hand feed just to make it tame. I think there needs to be a better reason to take the baby away from the parents... 3 squabs, staggered hatch may qualify as a good reason.:D
eta ...and I think @Chickencountryuk would enjoy the process and the result.;)

I agree... i will bottle feed a baby critter that needs it but I think if mom can handle it and baby is growing well then its best to let em be. :love
But it IS fun..:D

I will start and try tomorrow. I can't get flock raiser here so could I use grower pellets? I could add some of the regular feed with peas and maize and nutri bullet it. It would be nice to have at least one of them appreciate me!

I think grower is fine. Avoid layer mix bc too much calcium. The advantage is you don't need to worry about grit with this formula as you would with seeds i think. Also the thawed peas don't require grit either. About 15 days you can offer a small bowl of seeds and one of grit and peck at it with your finger he will learn to eat quick. Mine usually feed themselves by 21 days.
