UK pigeon owners

Pics
Wish me luck... im going to see if I can get in touch with a nurse I worked with many years ago at our health department. She lives here but havent seen her in a while. She used to raise and fly homing pigeons, not sure if she stiill does, but it would be a good local source of guidance and if she still raises them i might be able to get some squabs from her when im set up.. :fl

Thank you.. makes perfect sense.
We would probably use the eggs in cooking. But i think the idea of separating the males and females sounds much easier. And I believe I can incorporate a loft for them in my existing coops and runs. We converted our goat barn, after selling my goats, into 4 seperate coops and runs all under one roof, for my chickens and call ducks. One of the windows would make a perfect "launch area" (cant remember what its called..lol i think my brain is on information overload)
Be careful about having the loft too close to the chickens. Pigeons can get a virus called PMV, I can't remember the whole name for it, it can cause Newcastle disease in chickens. The risk is pretty low but it is still a risk. Pigeons can be vaccinated against it though.

Ok, thank you!

How is the trio of nestlings doing?:)
They are doing ok. The first one is massive compared to the other pair. I've just put a ring on the second one. The third is still too small. I candles the eggs from the other best and there both fertile. I could see a lot of veins still, so I think they could still be another 4-5 days yet.

Good news on both fronts! If the trio is still doing OK I would leave them alone. However-
If someone wanted a very tame pigeon, the big one would be easy to hand feed at that age... like i did with Doo. That would leave two sibs closer in size for the parents.

Fantastic on both! :love
