UK pigeon owners

Thanks. I'll send DW into town tomorrow and see if she can get those. Arnica I know we can. I've not heard of the other stuff though.
I'm happy that the younsters are more friendly but I am making more of an effort with handling them more. I was worried with the first ones that the parents might abandon them if I was to hands on. This time they seem alot more easy going!
Just the Arnica will be fine. Get a tube of the small pellets and you can dissolve 3-5 in an oz or 2 of distilled water and drop on tongue with a syringe or dropper. Once a day for 2 or 3 days at most.

Hi. Sorry for late reply. Yes it's stopped raining! It's been like a mid summers day here. Lovely and sunny just the weather for flying! Younsters are doing great. Getting big and friendly! They let me pick them up and there is no clicking, squeaking, flapping or panicking!

Excuse the mess. I have since given a good deep clean!
There is plastic eggs in the nest bowl! No more!
They're looking fantastic! Im glad they're friendly and ok with being hamdled. That has to make it even more worth your while than it already was.:love
I don't know where to begin with this, so I'll start at the beginning! I wanted to catch some feral from the stables as you know from my other thread, anyway I haven't had chance to get up and set up a trap. Today the 'pest control' people came:(. I haven't any news and I don't want to know. I couldn't get up because I have been redoing my fencing because my lovely hens have figured out how to fly/jump the existing one! Anyway I also said that I wanted to start releasing some of my other birds, cut a long story short, it hasn't returned.
My DW got a phone call from a friend saying she has a stray racing pigeon living in her garage but it may have a broken leg, can we take it? How can I say no! I'm a sucker like that! Anyway wife returns with said pidgy in a pet carrier, I have a look and it's got all the regalia, clock ring, phone number ring and an early 2018 racing band. I get it out and it's got feathers missing off its back and it's leg that has the racing band on is swollen badly and had a little sideward movement.

Now get this, I phone the number on the band and several call no answer, I text it saying 'I got your pigeon, I think its got a broken leg, please call me and let me know what you want me to do to'. I get a reply 'don't want it, just kill it. Cook it. It will make a good stew.' WTF! This sort of reply is what gives pigeon racing a BAD name. So thats it. I removed all its rings. The racing band came off as well. That was a pain. I used some small electrical wire cutters.

It's leg is injured but I'm not sure it's broken. Now the ring is off hopefully blood flow will return and the swelling will go down. I'll just have to keep it under observation. It's in a pet carrier in the loft now. Its in it new forever home. :)
Poor thing! :(
You are quickly going to be known as the racing pigeon sanctuary ! :love
He's a pretty bird and in the best of hands now! :highfive:

We can get the symphytum also. Would a cream be OK or is it better for drops? I've never really looked at homeopathy for cures or remedies but I'm definately having confidence with some of what there is!

I prefer to use the pellets and administer as is or diluted in distilled water to make a tincture that can be given by drops in the mouth. I think of homeopathy as energy medicine like accupunture the works by stimulating the organisms inherent healing mechanisms. If there is a fracture of bone it would be worthwhile to seek out the Symphytum, otherwise the Arnica should serve. Shock does not seem to be an issue with this bird but often is with birds who have been injured by a predator. For cases of shock it would be great to have Aconite on hand to give prior to the Arnica.
If only this would be a male to Boomer's liking...:fl

This vid may give you some basic info on homeopathy and the handling of remedies...

Well great news. Papa pidgy that didn't come back last night returned just after I left for work this morning! DW was the welcoming party. Apparently there was alot of cuddles and smooching. Then she let him in! Just kidding! Mama pidgy was very happy to have him back though! Got some Arnica ointment, it was all we could get in town today but it does have symphytum extract in it. Put some liberally on his leg. It is still swollen and I think it IS broken. I have made a 'sick bay' in the loft. It is mesh with a widowhood door. He can see everybody and has more space. Hopefully it can heal now.
